Boot Camp on Your Campus!! Instead of asking 25 or more students to travel to PCCA's facilities, PCCA comes to you! The Remote Boot Camp is the same course as the Introductory Compounding Lab Boot Camp (see description above), except that you host the class in your lab and classroom. Typically, these classes are held on a Saturday-Sunday of your choice, based on lab and classroom availability. Minimum enrollment is 25; maximum enrollment determined by campus facilities. Price includes shipment of all chemicals, devices, and course materials to the school; travel costs for two instructors (licensed pharmacists); and return-shipment of any unopened chemicals. The school must supply some lab equipment that cannot be shipped, including glassware, electronic balances, and hot plates. Please call for details. Remote Boot Camps are a wonderful opportunity for pharmacy schools to increase their participation in compounding pharmacy and enable students to complete the Boot Camp course with the added convenience of no-travel and cost-savings. In addition, professional student organizations that organize and host a Remote Boot Camp can use the event as an effective fundraiser! For more information, please contact Bindhu Batra, Pharm.D., at the PCCA Institute: 1-877-798-3224 ext. 5. Requests for hosting Remote Boot Camps for the 2010-2011 school year are now being accepted!

| |
The course has two components: an online component containing ten modules on advanced and applied concepts of pharmaceutical compounding, and a two-day laboratory experience that will introduce the student to unique dosage forms and equipment. The course will begin by introducing students to the various dosage forms used in pharmaceutical compounding. Materials cover the interrelationships between the physical and chemical aspects of compounding, the acceptable techniques of preparing individual prescriptions, as well as the regulatory guidelines available governing this practice. Students will learn to determine which dosage forms are appropriate dependent on the needs of the patient. Students will interact with other enthusiastic students as they attempt to solve “real world” case studies and learning how compounding is an integral part of a pharmaceutical care practice. The course will also touch upon compounding as a business opportunity. In the past, colleges have awarded 2.0 credit hours for this course; please check with your school's Dean's office to determine how much credit you will receive. Introductory Compounding Lab Boot Camp
(0.0 Credit Hours)
|
| |
Current pharmacy students may utilize PCCA's expertise and training through this course. The intent of Boot Camp is to introduce students to the unique and novel dosage forms utilized by today’s compounding pharmacists; to enlighten them as to the reality and feasibility of opening their own compounding pharmacy; and to inspire them to think of compounding as a viable, rewarding, and fulfilling career pathway. Two full days of lecture and hands-on laboratory work provide a basic understanding of the skills, tools and equipment used in Contemporary Compounding. Students complete eleven dosage forms they take home with them, focusing on dosage forms such as lollipops, lip balms, troches, and transdermal delivery systems. Demonstrations of modern compounding equipment include the Ointment Mill, Electro Mortar-Pestle, Homogenizer, and Heat Sealer. Lectures on various contemporary compounding topics, compounding as a career path, and patient case studies are also on the agenda Several schools of pharmacy in the U.S. and Canada host Remote Boot Camps on their own campuses (see above). If you are interested in learning more about hosting a Remote Boot Camp, please click here. Course Enrollment: To register for a Boot Camp course at PCCA’s facilities, click here to first register in the PCCA student database.
