Introduction
This course describes the epidemiology and etiology of equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM) along with current treatment approaches.

- Describe the epidemiology of EPM.
- Describe the etiology of EPM.
- Describe the appropriate selection of treatment for EPM.
- Discuss the characteristics of currently available pharmaceuticals for the treatment of EPM.

William Howard, D.V.M.
Dr. Howard is a 1973 graduate of Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Howard currently has a practice (Animal Clinic at the Crossing and West Loop Animal Hospital) with three other veterinarians in Longview, Texas, which focuses primarily upon equine and small animals with an emphasis on equine reproduction and dentistry. Dr. Howard is a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, American Veterinary Medical Association and East Texas Veterinary Medical Association of which he was president in 1979. He has continued his Texas A&M ties through research programs -- including most recently colic and rhodococcus studies in 1997 and 1998.
